National Higher Diploma in Pediatric Occupational Therapy
BethanyKids’ and Kijabe College of Health Science’ Pediatric OT (POT) program is an accredited program under Kijabe College of Health Sciences. The program is designed for existing Occupational Therapists to attain a specialty in pediatrics. The one-and-a-half-year national higher diploma in Pediatric Occupational Therapy aims to provide therapists with an advanced level of clinical training, empower them to provide excellent, competent and evidence-based clinical care to children as well as to prepare them to be leaders and a valuable resource to other therapists working in pediatrics.
Program Specifics
- The program will combine both didactic and clinical work. The program is designed to develop pediatric specialists who are able to be effective with a diverse population of children and their families. (This program is designed for individuals whom are already licensed as Occupational Therapists, and have practiced for two years since they have obtained their diploma in OT)
- Clinical work hours will be split between a variety of clinical settings including the following; hospital, outpatient, school based rehabilitation, mobile clinics, and assistive technology.
- The mentoring component involves intensive training across the continuum of pediatric therapy. The mentors will guide the learning process through modeling, questioning and feedback. Mentors are selected from local specialists along with international specialists in pediatrics.
- The main didactic component of the fellowship program will focus on the following areas; clinical reasoning skills, pediatric specific approaches and treatment, faith and clinical practice, and leadership skills.
- The program will have a rolling enrollment throughout the year, however the program will begin in January and run for 18 months.
- Program participants will be required to enroll in the Kijabe College of Health Sciences and pay the required fees
- Graduates will receive a National Higher Diploma in Pediatric Occupational Therapy.
